while husband was away on a business trip these last couple weeks, he did some awesome babyGap bargain shopping for the twinnies...

miss stella is VERY insistent on moving around the dining room chairs.

and they're not easy to push around.

this kid is an ox.

but after she scratched the wall, i tried to convince her that moving her highchair would be more fun.

she bought into that idea for like 2 seconds.

then back to the dining room chairs!

the bedding i made for my old co-worker at the law office is DONE!

yay!

i was supposed to go over this weekend and take some pictures with my camera...but i have the flu.

sigh.

i guess it will have to wait.

husband was gone for two weeks and it took olivia an entire week to not cry when she saw her daddy on the screen.

every month i do a photo shoot of the twins.

my original goal was to do this for the first year, but it has been SO much fun, i'm going to try and do it as long as i can.

for january's photo shoot, i chose a baking theme.

i made little grow-with-me aprons in some of my favorite amy butler fabrics and set up the kitchen table with fun props for the girls.

i love taking pictures of my girls and by doing a photo shoot each month, it's really helping me develop my photography skills.

nutella vanilla coconut banana pancakes

this is something my twins don't throw on the floor.

yay!

it's heaven on a plate.

and sooooooo easy to make!

nutella vanilla coconut banana pancakes

: : : recipe : : :

: ingredients :

pancake mix

1 tsp vanilla

1 tsp coconut extract

1tsp cinnamon

water

3 bananas

nutella

: optional :

coconut flakes

walnuts or macadamia nuts

: directions :

make pancake mix according to the box's directions.

i use krusteaz and use 1 cup of mix and 3/4 cup of water.

mix with a wisk.

then add the vanilla extract and coconut extract {this will give it a hint of coconut. if you want a stronger flavor, add more.}

add cinnamon.

wisk together.

pour 4" circles of batter onto a hot and greased skillet. {i use butter or pam}.

add sliced bananas.

when you see bubbles forming, flip.

let this side cook, then remove to a plate.

here comes the fun part.

layer a big dollop of nutella in between each pancake.

smooth it out.

it make not look pretty, but who cares?

{if you like nuts, now would be a good time to add walnuts or macadamia nuts}

repeat until you reach desired pancake height.

then add more nutella on top.

and leftover bananas and optional coconut flakes.

now eat.

and enjoy.

ok, friends.

first things first.

the blogsie had a mini facelift.

i fixed the problem that some of you were having with leaving comments.

and i took off that stupid word verification thing.

i'll deal with spam so you don't have to scramble your brains to try and figure out what those stupid made up words are.

ok, now back to business.

i did a photoshoot with the twinnies in these little aprons i made...

i call them the "grow with me apron."

they are made big and then safety pinned to be bubble skirts for when your girl is still little.

boom.

i'm trying to be all fancy and create my own photoshop editing actions, so i don't have any pictures edited yet.

but it's on the list.

after said photoshoot, auntie a and i went to in'n'out with the girlies.

is it gross that i could eat that almost everyday and not get sick of it?

olivia is chillaxin.

olivia had outpatient surgery this last week.

husband was out of town.

my mom watched stella and it was just livie and i at the children's hospital.

i aged 5 extra years on that day.

my girl is fine.

the procedure was in the diaper covered area and is nothing serious, just a lil' something that needed to get taken care of.

{note to mommies of babies who have surgery: if you feel like the nice nurses are trying to push you out of the hospital room a little too fast and you feel like you should just stay a little longer, listen to yourself! that's why you get paid the big bucks {ha!} and are given the wonderful gift of mother's intuition. it's there for a reason. don't brush it off. had i brushed mine off, i would have had a heart attack when i changed olivia's diaper and found loooooootsa blood. [well maybe not lotsa, but a pinprick is more blood than i want to see come out of my baby, let's be real here.], but the nurse was surprised too and the surgeon came and paid us a visit. she's fine, it's all "normal" but i literally would have lost my freaking marbles.}

so when i wasn't balling my eyes out from the emotional let down, i was laughing at this...

gotta love "handmade ryan gosling"

because it's funny.

luckily my doll making days are on hold.

for now.

and i made myself something.

big news.

i was undecided between ruffle or no ruffle, but i'm 99.9% sure no ruffle.

but she does walk.

she toddles.

i cry.

she just started to really walk like last week and is already walking all around when we're at church.

she already is over sitting with her family.

she plays with little boys and sits on people's laps. people she's never even met before.

when did my one year old become such a big girl?

{sorry laura, i know you hate it when i say that, but it's so true. don't even fight me on this one.}

she's so silly.

she loves to play peek-a-boo.

when she's fussy, i break out the, "where's livie?!" and get my voice all high-pitched and she always cracks a smile with an accompanying giggle.

poor stella, she's so bummed out that i locked her play cabinets closed.

random friday: take thirty four

it was my birthday this week.

i turned 28.

i feel so old.

i mean, i am old, for me.

i didn't really feel like celebrating, but husband convinced me that a night away in san francisco would be fun.

how can you resist that?

so away we went.

the twinnies got to see their first little outdoor splash pad...

we had a king sized bed in our hotel and boy was it niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice.

we only have a queen, so it was lovely having all of that space, especially since STELLA SLEPT WITH US that night.

that's right, i used the caps for ~~yelling~~ emphasis.

the babes never sleep with us.

in the beginning it was the fear of suffocating them.

and we didn't want to start a hard habit to break.

but stella would not stop screaming in the hotel room when it was time to sleep.

like SCREAMING.

poor kid.

she woke up at least 6 times that night screaming.

but i'm getting ahead of myself.

before all of the screaming and fear of cranky hotel guests banging at my door at 3 am, we went to pier 39 and fisherman's wharf.

we even ate in a restaurant.

a sit-down restaurant.

with the twinnies.

that may not sound like a big deal, but it is.

our girls don't really like restaurants for longer than 10 minutes.

they're too dang active!!

BUT they did so well!

i was quite impressed.

it was pretty cold and windy, so they were quite bundled up.

olivia's not too sure about that bear.

i think they're both lefties.

livie, for sure.

stella likes to keep me guessing, but i think she's a leftie too.

the next day we went to the children's creative museum.

i wanted a place for them to be able to crawl around and get into things.

every day i am amazed at how big my girls are getting.

olivia sings and dances to music.

she claps and waves allllll the time.

stella is walking, calling me "mama" {kinda} and tries to climb onto everything.

it's amazing and sad.

i love the little people they are becoming and i miss the little cooing babies they used to be.

it's such a trip.

i made the cake and decorations.

vintage fabric bunting banner & a heart balloon for ashley to write on and release to tatum in heaven.

tatum's little sister chloe was busy reorganizing the kitchen drawers...

we love you ashley!

and after splitting the cake with ashley, i ate some the next day for breakfast.

life has happened.

my friday post took a little longer than i thought it would....

for some reason my iphoto wasn't showing my newly imported photos.

happy new year!

we had a great new year's eve night out!

my parents babysat, the hubs and i went out to sushi and then over to our friends' house for their annual new years party.

it's hard to believe that exactly 9 years ago the duke and i became boyfriend/girlfriend.

and exactly 8 years ago we became engaged!

we're getting old!

this last year has been so amazing.

motherhood is wonderful and challenging at the same time.

these two little monkeys have brought more joy and happiness into this home than i ever thought possible!

i've never really been one for resolutions, but i'm going to do it this year.

: : : i want to take a picture a day. and not just an iphone picture, a real picture on my real camera. i am going to master all of those crazy settings! : : :

: : : i want to sew more clothes. like dresses and pants and stuff. real clothes. and i want to make stuff for me for once! : : :

: : : i want to study the scriptures more. : : :

: : : i want to be a better journal writer : : :

: : : i want to find a better balance in my life. : : :

: : : i want to keep my house cleaner {that's part of the balance} and try and get dressed everyday {oh and that is too.} : : :

so that's a lot.

i just want to improve myself a little bit.

oh, like the blog's new look?

slipcover your granny

back when i was pregnant with the twins, i bought this glider for the nursery.

it was originally pink and i spray painted it white and bought new foam for the bottom cushion.

when we bought it {off of cl} i remember seeing it and saying, "ok! let's get it!"

then duke reminded me to sit in it first.

i sat in it for like 2 seconds and repeated, "ok! let's get it!"

i was very pregnant and uncomfortable no matter where i sat, so how was i supposed to know this chair wasn't built for comfort?

for me, it's all wrong.

there's never enough lumbar support, for one.

and two, it's quite narrow with hard, wooden arms that no baby wants to rest on.

so, one night i was in that glider for a couple of hours.

that doesn't really happen that often here, i am blessed with very good sleepers that don't really need any assistance in falling asleep.

so back to that night.

i rocked livie twice and stella once, WHICH NEVER HAPPENS!

when i heard stella's cries, i was at a complete loss because she NEVER wakes up in the middle of the night.

with livie, i know all of the tricks to get her happy and sleep again.

i'm a novice when it comes to stella tricks.

so i tried rocking her and as soon as i got her to sleep, olivia woke up. back in the glider.

as i was rocking her to sleep, i had these images flash in my mind of YEARS of sickness and having to do this for hours.

then i couldn't even fathom having to go through all of that with that glider.
so i searched and searched and searched for a new one.

then i found this on craigslist for $20.

perfect!
so much potential.

so i made a slipcover for it...
(i thought about reupholstering it, but i lack the time and the funds for the fabric i would REALLY want!)

and what rocker would be complete without ruffles?

ta-da!

livie loves it.
stella does too, but olivia is in it with me the most...
or just by herself...

they were kinda big, a little floppy, i was over them.

so i made new ones.

no random friday today.

one of my bloggy friends has something REALLY amazing going on on her blog.

she is facilitating christmas miracles all over the world.

ok, here's the back story.

modg {amanda} posted a pic of her son's first birthday party.

it was catered.

it was at a location.

there was a photographer, whatever.

someone wrote a comment about how she needs to "own" the fact that she isn't a poor

stay-at-home mom that she "claims" to be because she can afford to throw a party like that.

{what is it with people going nuts over first birthday parties??!}

anyways...

so amanda wrote a post in response cause she was pissed off.

well, in that post, people starting baring their souls and telling their heartbreaking money woes.

amanda's cold, little heart shattered.

so she helped one of these commenters.

then other readers started offering help to other commenters.

and then it snowballed.

now, there are 749 comments from ONE post.

{UPDATE: at 9:50 pm there are 1007 comments!!!}

there are so many that just need clothes for their little ones.

or toys to put under the christmas tree.

some need money, some need jobs.

the needs are great and small, but if you can help out, help out!

i did. and it really is better to give than to receive.

stella and olivia's pink and teal winter wonderland first birthday party

it was such a wonderful day.
the girls were surrounded by {most} of the people who love them and that's all i really wanted for their birthday.
our little dollhouse of a house held over 40 people!
{and for those that know my house, you know that's a lot!!}

a big birthday shout out to my momma who was like a slave and helped SO much for the party. she and i made all of the food, so we were very busy!
a big thank you to lala and sarah who helped with babysitting and macaron mastering!
and a final thank you to everyone who showed up and celebrated our twinnies special day with us!
i'm glad so many go to see olivia go to town at her second cake smash!!

: : : here are the deets for all the stuff i made for the party! : : :

: : : the birthday invitation : : : i designed it in photoshop. i am currently selling it in my etsy shop. i hot glued candles that were tied with bakers twine onto the "1" on the invitation. bakers twine purchased here.

: : : the front door wreath : : : i took two wire clothes hangers and bent them into half circles, then twisted them together. {i realize this would have been much easier had i had a very large wreath form, but i didn't and i wasn't about to make ANOTHER TRIP out to get supplies. i improvised.} then i took some white ribbon and tied a very thick and fluffy white boa around it. for the "1" i drew out a "1" on cardboard, cut it out, spray painted it and sprinkled glitter onto it while it was still wet. i did the same thing for the "1" in the spray painted ikea ung drill picture frame that hung above the dining room table.

: : : dining room chandelier : : : i made it using this tutorial. upside: you make a rad chandelier for like $12. downside: it takes a million hours to make.

: : : fabric strip banners : : : i used this tutorial from ashley ann's blog. i bought a few $5 twin flat sheets from walmart.

: : : bow garlands : : : i used this tutorial. i made it easier and faster by hot gluing the centers {instead of hand sewing} and by joining the bows with safety pins {instead on hand sewing them} so i can switch them out for a different configuration for a future use.

: : : scalloped bunting banner : : : i used my pattern that i sell in my etsy shop. i used vintage sheets and bias tape. it's so easy to make and i have used mine at least 5 different times. i sell pre-made ones here.

: : : smash cake pedestals : : : i used this tutorial...kinda. i just used gorilla glue and i didn't have a clamp so i just put a paint can on top of it. again, i improvised. ;)

: : : party punch : : : i made it using this tutorial. i used strawberries instead of raspberries and it was still fantastic. if you ever make this, make sure you have enough to make two batches...it goes fast!!

: : : straws : : : i bought pink and aqua ones here. hide your credit card before you go to her site, you'll want to buy everything! ;)

: : : pom pom garland : : : i used this pom pom maker. if you ever make these, make sure you double your yarn, it will be twice as fast. :)

random friday: take thirty one

exactly two years ago, i was here...

i could have eaten that everyday, for every meal and been happy.

ok.

so here is something kinda crazylike.

when we got to paris, we checked into our hotel and went straight to the louvre.

there is a triumphal arch right in front of it.

while i was taking pictures of the arch, there were these two little girls running around.

they were SO freaking cute.

i was kinda taken aback by them.

i wanted to take a picture of them, but didn't want to be a creeper.

so this is the blurriness of what i got...

two little twinnies.

in LEOPARD.

wait a second....i have two twinnies in leopard!

those two pictures are a year apart.

and call me nutso but those little parisian twinnies look like my twinnies. and how they will probably look in three years.

livie in the front and stella in the back?!

look again.

it looks like the one in front has fairer skin THAN THE BROWN ONE IN THE BACK!

{yup, i'm YELLING!}

yes, yes, yes, it's totally crazy.

but what will be even crazier is if i find those jackets in three years.

so this last week the girls had some fun with their grandparents...

looked WAY too big in a little chair...

made their first piece of art...

and dumped a huge ziploc bag of ritz crackers all over the floor.

{then proceeded to make approximately 1 million crumbs out of said crackers.}

they fell in love with the christmas tree...

liv and i went to the doctor...

and olivia decided to eat her stroller...

{the girl loves to eat.}

as far as moi, i couldn't find the right tights to wear....

i went out ON A DATE WITH MY HUSBAND!!!!

{that like, never happens!}

we saw some funny window dancers....

i crossed pre-party projects off my list...

{their wall of "firsts"!}

i finally finished the chandelier.

and then i found this.

i told them they had to stop growing, but they didn't listen to me.
now they're ONE.
and i'm kinda freaking out.

last night i was sweatshopping {meaning: i was catching up on etsy orders 'til 3am} and watching father of the bride.
probably not the best movie choice for being sad about your little ones growing up and reaching milestones.
ya, i know it's kinda not the same thing as my babies getting married, but it kinda is.
it makes sense in my head.
so let's oooh and ahhhh over how cute and little the twinnies were ONE YEAR AGO!

this last year has been the best year of my life.
i get to play all day with my best friends.
they are such an amazing blessing and i am SO thankful that i was given these little girls.

my girls are growing up.

they will be one next week.

i'm trying to not be sad about it.

i just keep flipping to this page in my new planner.

and reread it like a mantra.

they are growing up into little people EVERYDAY!

they are the best gifts i could have ever been given.

i'm so thankful to my heavenly father for giving me them.

and i'm thankful they have each other.

watching them play and interact together is almost magical.

how lucky are they to be twins?!

so, so lucky.

and i {we} are so, so lucky to have them in our lives.

the doctor wants olivia to have four, but two is what i can manage.

it was nice to spend some good, quality time with one of my little girls.

we went to starbucks and shared a pumpkin muffin.

in one week my twinnies are turning O N E !

so bittersweet.

i did a cake smash photo session with the girls this afternoon.

it turned out better than i had imagined!

{and i'm sorry about being MIA...party preparations are in full swing!!}

my sweet, dainty stella.

we had to encourage her to get her hands dirty with cake.

{i l o v e this picture of olivia so much. she got so tired of eating so much cake, she just laid down on it and kept eating. sigh. i love that girl so much.}

it was worth every second of work and preparation.

AND CLEAN UP!

and luckily my mom, best friend and husband were there to help and laugh alongside me as i shot these photographs.

it was a great day.
