ezra james turns one

Today my sweet Ezra James turns one. If you had told me four years ago that I would have three children within 22 months of each other, I would tell you that you were off your rocker.

The twins were great babies. I would even describe them as happy babies. They were sweet, smiley and fun. I thought they were what people talked about when they talked about "happy babies" and "good babies." I had nothing to compare it to since they were the first newborns I was in constant contact with. Enter Ezra. He's had a fair amount of illnesses the first year {rhinitis when he was 10 days old, RSV when he was 2 months old followed by severe eczema with a staph infection and seborrhea and most recently bronchitis that requires nebulizer treatments}, but has been such a trooper through all of it.

He is the happiest and most smiley baby I have ever seen. He loves to play with his sisters and he especially loves to be chased and tickled. His hips and his feet are the most ticklish spots on his little body and he squeals and giggles with delight when you tickle him. He loves to be held upside down. It's really the funniest thing. He likes it so much that he sometimes launches himself off the couch or the bed so he can be upside down. Now that is not so funny. {He's never actually fallen, I've learned to keep my hand tightly on that little daredevil!} Ezra LOVES to eat. Bread, green beans, Goldfish crackers, pizza and meat of any kind are his favorite things to eat. Well, that and anything I have on my plate. ;) He has such a sweet little personality and I'm grateful every day that he is a part of our family.

You know you hear that the third get doesn't get all the fancy stuff the first kids got? Sadly, it's true. I didn't even get around to sending out invitations for Ezra's party, I had to send out texts. Sigh. I really love designing birthday invitations so I'm kinda shocked I didn't squeeze that into my full schedule. Oh well, I'll be better next time!

Ezra's party was nautical themed and the real show stoppers were the one garland of nautical flags {from amazon}, the vintage ship cake topper {from etsy} and the AMAZING cakes that my wonderfully talented chef friend Sarah made for us. Ezra's smash cake was chocolate, the top tier of the wave cake was carrot and the bottom tier was cinnamon snicker doodle. They were so amazing! We also had a "Sushi Bar" with 8 different flavors of Goldfish crackers. Who knew french toast goldfish grahams would be so amazing? Ok, enough talk, here's the pictures!

I made homemade Cafe Rio, which consisted of sweet pulled pork, cilantro lime rice, tomatillo cilantro ranch dressing, freshly made tortillas, salsa and toppings. In one word: amazing!

Ezra was such a trooper and tried so hard to blow out his candle. It was so stinkin' cute.

He didn't go all out like olivia did. He needed some coaxing to break past the icing.

His sweet older sisters gladly stepped in and showed baby brother {"baby brudder!"} how it's done.

Those crossed ankles! I die. So cute.

It was such a fabulous party and I couldn't have done it without all of my helpers. Mom, Sarah, Ashley, Morgan, Steve, Earl...you all helped me so much! Thank you! A few very special people couldn't make it to the party and it wasn't the same without them, but it was still such a great day. Probably one of my favorite days. I can't get over that sweet smile in the picture above. Or the fact that Ezra gave me a real hug for the first time last week. We were at ballet class and I put him on my lap and he stood toward me and put his arms around my neck and clutched on tight for about two minutes. My mama heart was in bliss. Being his mama makes me so happy. We're so lucky to have this miracle baby. Happy birthday, Ezra!
