ezra's baby blessing

the day after the twins' party sweet little ezra was blessed at church.
it was a beautiful blessing with my favorite part being when ezra was blessed with a sense of humor to survive his older twin sisters.
it made me chuckle.
what also made me chuckle was during the blessing, the girls were quite squirrelly and talkative, so i gave them each a piece of licorice {thinking that would keep them silent}.
of course i got some very loud and enthusiastic, "thank you, mama!!!!" thank you's from the girls in response.
they're too funny.

here is {most of} the gang that came to the blessing.
{steve + sarah & tyson + janessa were missing.}

i'm wearing giant heels.

love my men.

the grandparents with their grandbabies.

my sister laura and her little family.

the food.
the amazing, yummy food.

i made my fabulous white chili, rustic bread and cabbage salad.

i haven't really gotten into the groove of preparing big, yummy dinners while juggling everything, so i reeaaallllllly wanted to make super yummy food for ezra's blessing luncheon so i could have some awesome leftovers.
the recipes are below!

i made a leather garland to hang and try and make the {almost always} girlie dining room a little more manly for ezra's day.

it was such a nice day with so many friends and family.
thank you to everyone who came!

White Chili
{i highly recommend doubling or tripling the recipe if you're making it for more than 6 people...everyone always has seconds!}

lbs boneless, skinless chicken breast, cut into ½ inch cubes
1 lb bacon, cut into ¼ inch slices
1 medium onion, chopped
1 ½ teaspoons garlic powder
2 cans (15 ½ oz each) white beans, rinsed and drained
2 cans (14 oz each) chicken broth {we like ours with more broth to make it more like a soup, if you want it more like a chili, only add one can of broth.}
2 cans (4 oz each) chopped green chilies
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon dried oregano
½ teaspoon pepper
¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 cup sour cream
1 cup heavy whipping cream
{optional} fresh cilantro, for garnishing

In a large sauce pan, brown the bacon until it is golden and crispy. Remove and set aside. Drain most of the bacon fat, but not all. Leave a few teaspoons worth in the pan. Sauté the chicken, onion and garlic powder in the bacon fat until the chicken is no longer pink.
Add the bacon, beans, broth, chilies and seasonings. Bring to boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for 20 minutes.
Remove from heat; stir in sour cream and heavy whipping cream. Garnish with fresh cilantro, if desired.

Rustic Bread

1 ½ tablespoons salt
1 ½ tablespoons yeast
1 tablespoon sugar
3 cups lukewarm water
6 cups of flour

wisk together all ingredients {except flour} in a very large bowl. wait 5 minutes for yeast to activate. if the yeast is good it should bubble slightly and smell, well, yeasty. add flour, one cup at a time and stir with a wooden spoon until combined. cover with clear wrap and place in a warm place and let it rise for one hour. the dough should almost double in size. punch it down and separate it into two sections. add a small amount of flour so the dough isn't sticky and shape into two long loaves. place loaves on a parchment lined cookie sheet and preheat oven to 450*. let the bread rise until the oven is ready and bake for about 30 minutes, until the bread is golden brown.

  1. What a special day for your family. Baby Ezra is so precious. And he is so loved by everyone, especially his older sisters. :)

    The luncheone looks yummy too. I remember how stressed i was after my son's blessing. I was running on two hours of sleep and had a house FULL of people to entertain. (Same thing for his 1st bday!). I know, I'm crazy.

  2. What beautiful photos!! I am about to make the bread now. I have potato soup in the crockpot and this would go perfectly.
