baby blessing day

in our LDS culture, babies are blessed instead of being baptized as infants. (they need to be at least 8 years-old to be baptized to ensure they know what it is and are making it their own choice to do so.) typically the father gives the baby their blessing. earl did such an amazing job of bringing the spirit to such a wonderful milestone of the girls' lives.

my wonderful friend ashley recorded their blessings and i wrote them out for all to read that couldn't be there.

here is stella's...

Dear Father, which art in heaven,
In the name of Jesus Christ and by the authority of the Holy Melchizedek Priesthood, we encircle this child to give her a name and a blessing. The name by which she shall be known throughout her life and on the records of the church is Stella. Stella, because of your faith and strength, you were called to come to the Earth at this time, during this last dispensation. You chose to leave your first estate and to follow the plan of the Savior. He would have you know that he has his own plan for you and that, as you progress, it will be manifested unto you. Stella, you are fortunate to have been born into “The Covenant” as an heir to the blessings that are associated with, and that are offered in, the Abrahamic covenant. As a daughter of this covenant, you are charged with the responsibility of bringing to pass God’s work to bring to pass the immortality and the eternal life of man. We bless you as you dedicate your life to this cause, that you will find unmatched joy and that your family will be eternal. Stella, we are all given gifts of the spirit; yours are plentiful. We bless you that you may be able to identify what these gifts are. We bless you with the knowledge that it is only through the development of these gifts and through the sharing of these gifts with others that you will fully be able to receive the benefits of them. Stella, I bless you with a strong mind and a strong body of which to carry out the Lord’s work. We bless you as you dedicate your life to His service that you may come to find out who you really are, and you will be able to understand your divine worth as a child of God. I bless you that at an appropriate time you will be baptized and you will receive the blessings of the temple with your future mate as you prepare yourself worthily. I would impart these last words, that you may know that it is through the grace of God after all that we can do to perfect ourselves, that you are able to receive and attain exaltation. Live your life such that you are worth of His grace. These blessings I impart in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

and here is olivia's...

Dear Father who art in heaven,
In the name of Jesus Christ and by the authority of the Holy Melchizedek Priesthood, we hold this baby in our arms to give her a name and a blessing. The name by which she shall be known in the records of the church and throughout her life will be Olivia. Olivia, before the world was, you were chosen to come to Earth. You elected to give up your first estate to follow what you knew to be true. You made the decision to come to this Earth, and through your loyalty and your love for the Savior in the premortal existence, you were chosen to come at this given day when the adversary is at his strongest. Olivia, you have come to this Earth to bring much hope and love to the lives of your family. I bless you that your household that you grow up in with your family will dedicate itself to try to reciprocate that love. Olivia, you too have been blessed with gifts of the Spirit. As you are surrounded by worthy Priesthood holders and loving family members, you will come to realize what these gifts are. You will be able to learn how to develop them in such a way as to make your Heavenly Father proud. Olivia, as with all of us, you will be faced with many trials, many of which may seem a little overwhelming. We bless you that you will be able to overcome these trials through fervent prayer and scripture study. As you hold to the rod you will be able to learn what you need to to continue to develop, to grow towards your true potential. We bless you that this will not be the last white dress that you find yourself in as, at the appropriate time, you will enter the waters of baptism, and you will make special promises in the temple. I bless you that you will have a testimony of the restoration of the gospel and of the power of the Book of Mormon, which has the power to change lives and the power to help you grow closer to Christ. The same words I impart to you, that you will understand that it is through God’s grace and though all the works that we can do to prepare ourselves to come unto him that will allow us to achieve exaltation. These things I leave with you and bless you with in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
